Days in Johannesburg - Part 1

It’s long back to scribble in my blog…..

After a 12 hours journey in Emirates, with fantastic airhostess, I reached Johannesburg from Chennai. I am deputed to Johannesburg – South Africa, the land of Sunshine, for a Consulting assignment in a gold mine by my employer.

Evening breeze, wide roads, fast running cars and the purple color trees, tall buildings, British/Spanish style apartments/rest houses and noise free environment welcomed me. The Cab guy took me to the apartment where am suppose to stay in the rest of the days in Johannesburg, it is an well furnished apartment with an how-some view point from the balcony, Being an long journey, I dropped me in my bed.

It’s the first Sun ray that woke me and made me to view out. Yes, it’s the early morning hours and I enjoyed the hills and valleys along with the man made houses in between, through my window.

MNCs and policies.

Have u even wonder how the rules are created and followed across the MNCs?

A group of scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage and in the middle, a ladder with bananas on the top. Every time a monkey went up the ladder, the scientists soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water.

After a while, every time a monkey went up the ladder, the others beat up the one on the ladder. After some time, no monkey dares to go up the ladder regardless of the temptation.
Scientists then decided to substitute one of the monkeys. The 1st thing this new monkey did was to go up the ladder. Immediately the other monkeys beat him up. After several beatings, the new member learned not to climb the ladder even though never knew why!. It became a procedure to it.

After sometime, 2nd monkey was substituted and the same occurred. The 1st monkey participated on the beating for the 2nd monkey. A 3rd monkey was changed and the same was repeated (beating). The 4th was substituted and the beating was repeated and finally the 5th monkey was replaced.

What was left was a group of 5 monkeys that even though never received a cold shower, continued to beat up any monkey who attempted to climb the ladder. That’s how procedure and rules are created and followed in most of the MNCs. Its nothing wrong in following them but redefine them on regular interval based on the underlying need is compulsory else we would be one among the monkeys in the cage...
