March 31, 2006

Hi friends,
It’s my pleasure to share my hearty time with you. Yesterday 30th of March 2006, I had my induction program celebrate grandly by our employee care team.

The program starts with an introduction by one of our owner, Mr. Shiva. His speech explains the way he got into the field and the narrow path he traveled and how he made success etc. Really it attracted me so much. I would like to make it in my web area and to make it useful to all, but I am not supposed to do so. But the quintessence of the speech remains in my mind will guide me to the rest of my path.

Then the program continues with the speech of various managers from employee care, administration, transport, etc…here by I should remember our ETAS manager, who made a wonderful introduction towards Enterprise Technology Application Support. This program also contains some technical seminar about lotus notes and the network technology.
And the speech ends with a distribution of momentum (An induction gift).

We also had a wonderful, playful, swap program. It starts with evening snacks, we had 3 games Paper dance, Balloon bust, Ostrich-Elephant-fish, Rabbit-Wall-Arrow. We divided our self into two teams and participated init.

Paper dance: Here a full sheet of paper will be provided to a pair and they should dance with in the paper, then paper has to be folded as half and dance, then to half and its goes on until the paper is as small as possible.

I participated in it and placed second.

Balloon bust: each one will be provided a balloon and we have to bust the opposite teams balloon,

I bust about 5 balloons and finally our team won it.

Ostrich-Elephant-fish: each animal have a sign and we should show it on comment, the mismatch sign will be pulled out.

Our team stood second in this game

Rabbit-Wall-Arrow: Here the whole team has to show a single sign (rabbit or wall or arrow). There are some combinations, which win. Arrow wins the rabbit, rabbit win the wall and wall wins the arrow. It’s an interesting game.

Our team won it with a final rabbit.

I had a wonderful day; really it makes me feel free from my desk worries.

Where is UR focus???

Hi friends,

Here I have a masterpiece to think before u act.

Focus on Problem Vs Focus on Solution.

We all meet lot of problems all over the day. It’s our task to go through it. I feel the following will help us.

There are two methods to solve a problem,

  1. Focus on problem
  2. Focus on Solution

Many of us Focus on problem, it’s also a way to solve it. But there is another way focus on solution.

Here is an example for it.

Example 1:

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity (ink won't flow down to the writing surface). To solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million. They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.

And what did the Russians do...?? They used a pencil.

Example 2:

One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soapbox, which happened in one of Japan's biggest cosmetics companies. The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soapbox that was empty. Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department. For some reason, one soapbox went through the assembly line empty. Management asked its engineers to solve the problem. Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soapboxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty.
No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent a whoopee
amount to do so.
But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, he did not get into complications of X-rays, etc., but instead came out with another solution. He bought a strong industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line. He switched the fan on, and as each soapbox passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.

Moral : Always look for simple solutions.
